THE SWEET SUN SETS OVER SYDNEY

On a postcard day in Sydney, warm and still, close your eyes and listen ‘Pictures in the sky that only you and I can see / Listen for the hum my love will run to me’ a song that tracks my life adventure so far, the ups and downs of life, the ups and downs of a city and a sinister beauty consistent with her geography and perhaps consistent even with her citizenry. I grew up on the beaches and harbour around Sydney. A great city to be young in, while it lasts. Lots of great memories, lots of sadness too. I was at school with three of the boys that were killed in the ghost train fire at Luna Park – an amusement park right on the harbour at Milsons Point. The sinister, haunting face of Luna Park remains. It was a defining moment of my childhood. The funeral was huge, all three boys farewelled together. It was one of the only times I ever saw my father cry.”
